Theatres face similar challenges to vast football stadia on a slightly reduced scale: providing drinks and, in some cases, gourmet restaurant-style meals within the restricted timescale of the interval.
The design and installation of these facilities draws on our full range of experience. Most theatres are in older buildings, with inherent idiosyncrasies. Some are in listed buildings, with additional restrictions. The challenge is to create a chef’s kitchen, with easy access to the restaurant. At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, we created a prestige restaurant within a restricted space on the first-floor balcony, where guests are served pre-theatre hors d’oeuvres followed by a main meal during the interval, in a relaxed atmosphere amid glorious surroundings.
