The O2

Working closely with Sir Robert McAlpine, and up to 60 different subcontractors at any one time, KCCJ project managed the installation of all the catering and beverage systems in the impressive O2 arena in Greenwich, London.

This included installations in the Chairman’s Club, the O2 Lounge, the Blue Room, the Premier Club, the private boxes and 24 foodservice concessions.

KCCJ was responsible for appointing and co-ordinating all the contractors involved in the catering and beverage installations, and ensuring that their work was undertaken and completed to consistently high standards of design and performance. To streamline the process, a core team from KCCJ worked on-site within the O2 project office in Greenwich during the construction period.

Innovative catering facilities developed by KCCJ include a specially designed large ‘sizzle’ griddle unit and canopy with a specially designed radio-controlled fire suppression system within the arena’s luxurious Premier Club restaurant.

Curved bar counters were specially designed and fabricated to reflect the shape of the arena, using laser cut stainless steel. One hundred and fifty private boxes were fitted out with refrigeration equipment and counter hob units, designed by KCCJ.

The sophisticated beer system is capable of delivering 33,000 pints of chilled beer every 30 minutes and enables a pint to be pulled and paid for in just 10 seconds. KCCJ also installed and commissioned the liquid CO² supply that cools the beer and delivers it at a consistent -2°C temperature.
