In October 2013 KCCJ were asked to meet with Head Chef, Danny Potter at the QEII Conference Centre, Westminster to discuss the upgrade of the catering facilities in order to keep pace with the growing demands of the largest dedicated conference and exhibition space in central London.
Leith’s, the award winning in-house caterers needed their kitchens / catering equipment to cope with over 400 national and international events per year at a venue with an event capacity of up to 2,500 delegates.
Danny Potter had a clear of idea of the catering equipment he required which included 20 grid Rational combination ovens, Frima Vario Cooking centres, Granuldisk pot washers and numerous other items of equipment such as floor standing mixers, marble top pastry benches, pastry sheeting machines and much more.
Not only were KCCJ asked to supply, install and project manage these works, but KCCJ’s Construction Division were tasked with providing all of the M&E requirements for each item of equipment, altering door openings, removing walls, making good floor and wall and ceiling finishes.
Much of this work had to take place out of hours in order to keep the kitchen open. However, some of the works including a complete re-configuration of the main flight dishwasher facility were undertaken during a summer shutdown period.
It was during this period that KCCJ also supplied and installed all the catering equipment within the QEII’s new ground floor café bar, provided a new glasswashing and water bottling facility on the buildings 4th floor and undertook the replacement of some of the ageing coldroom / freezer room plant.
