Rose Street Primary School
KCCJ has extensive experience of designing and installing kitchens in the education sector but it’s not that often that we have the luxury of carrying out a project at a brand new build. However, that’s exactly what happened at Rose Street Primary School on the Isle of Sheppey. Working in partnership with main contractor Kier Construction, KCCJ undertook the fitting out of the new kitchen which was situated in one of the new buildings specially constructed to allow the school to up its intake from a one form to a two form entry. This was necessary in order to accommodate the growth in pupil numbers on the Isle of Sheppey arising from inward migration to the area and above average birth rates.
KCCJ worked initially with Kier, and then with the local authority, Kent County Council (KCC), both of whom took advice from KCCJ on minor adjustments to the design of the kitchen area so as to ensure the best possible ergonomic solution for the staff. KCCJ also worked closely with KCC to ensure that the equipment specified and installed was the most suitable for delivering the menu that the school wanted to offer. This is an extremely important consideration given the current guidelines relating to school meal provision. As well as providing all the kitchen equipment, including combi ovens, refrigeration, 6 burner gas ranges and warewashing, KCCJ also stepped in to install a new roller shutter and altro flooring.
The project, valued at over £75,000, was completed on time and within the specified budget and will help to ensure that children at Rose Street Primary get the healthy, nutritious meals that are vital to effective learning.
