Jenny Hammond Primary School
When the local authority approved a £5.25m expansion of the Jenny Hammond Primary School in Waltham Forest, a new kitchen and dining hall were amongst the key elements.
When it came to designing, specifying and installing the kitchen what could have been a tricky task for main contractor Willmott Dixon was made considerably easier by the close working relationship that KCCJ has developed with the London Borough of Waltham Forest over the course of the last 10 years.
Having been presented with a very broad brief by Willmott Dixon it fell upon KCCJ to interpret the local authority’s vision for the kitchen based upon a number of previous projects that it had carried out for them. Right from the start The Borough was happy to put its faith in the KCCJ team and ultimately this benefitted all parties: the school knew that it would take possession of a kitchen that had been specifically designed for them by a company that understands the very unique nature of school catering; Willmott Dixon was able to keep no more than watching brief over this aspect of the expansion, safe in the knowledge that The Borough was happy to deal directly with KCCJ; and KCCJ knew that at the end of the project they would deliver an installation that was fit for purpose and would only enhance its reputation with The Borough and the wider local authority catering community. And so it proved.
The project, worth just over £60,000, included cooking, refrigeration and warewashing equipment as well as a ventilation system, and was delivered within budget and ahead of schedule, due in no small part to the fact that KCCJ’s direct involvement with The Borough accelerated the timeline.
